Mobile Learning for CMEs

For those of you interested in Mobile learning using PDAs and continuing medical education this is a very interesting company that is jumping on one of the latest trends. Epocrates is an educational vehicle featured on handheld devices. With an opt-in user base of over 500,000 clinicians - including more than 200,000 physicians - they have a guaranteed CME activity completion rate of 600. In addition to MobileCME, audience generation and outcomes activities, Epocrates also strategically partners with organizations like ACC to extend the reach of education and ensure that members have access to all available tools and resources, as publicized in Healthcare Informatics (http://www.healthcare-informatics.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=6529D6C30B054CC0B08979DC71A8B677): The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has teamed up with Epocrates to offer a set of tools designed specifically for cardiologists, including CardioMath, a suite of 50 commonly used formulas in cardiovascular medicine. Washington, D.C.-based ACC is shifting its continuing medical education to be accessible from PDAs. “Physicians cannot be tethered to a workstation,” says Brad Ettinger, ACC's senior director of e-business and digital products. Among ACC's membership, more than 80 percent of the younger physicians are using mobile devices.
